Do Schools Get Free Chromebooks?

Schools are getting free Chromebooks, but does that mean they should get them? Schools across the country are receiving these laptops for their students to use. The question is whether or not it’s a good idea to give out one of the most popular laptops in the world.
This blog post will discuss why schools would want Chromebooks and how they may be useful for teachers and students alike. It also talks about some disadvantages of having such an expensive device at school.

In the early 2000s it became common for schools to provide students with a laptop. In fact, many times schools have been required to give every student a computer as part of No Child Left Behind. The way that schools were able to afford these computers was by going around and updating everything that they could find in their school building.

From walls being painted different colors, new paint on lockers, or even just buying new light bulbs so the gym didn’t look so dingy anymore.  The one thing that is now missing from this list is Chromebooks, but do schools get free Chromebooks?  In short yes! There are some stipulations you need to meet for your school district if you want free Chromebooks.

As more schools are using technology in the classroom, some are asking whether they should be getting Chromebooks for free. Schools that have received free Chromebooks usually have a large number of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch programs. There is no doubt that technology can help students learn better and faster, but there are also questions about how to manage these devices effectively.
